Anthony Martial is still searching for a new club months after his departure from Monterrey, with the former Manchester United forward having turned down a significant contract offer from French side Auxerre earlier this summer. The 30-year-old has been a free agent since mutually terminating his Liga MX contract in early June, halfway through his original two-year deal.
Multiple agents have reportedly offered his services across Europe. Lorient's sporting director, Laurent Koscielny, confirmed his club was among those approached. "I think we received 400 to 450 player offers during the transfer window," Koscielny told Ouest-France. He added, "There were, for example, a lot of former internationals in the lot, including Anthony Martial."
Interest from across Europe
Interest has been registered from several quarters. Russian clubs CSKA Moscow and Krasnodar are said to be interested, while Malaga and another unnamed Spanish side are also in contact. Martial has previously played in Spain during a loan spell at Sevilla from United. Other French clubs like Lens and Nice have been linked in the past, but Auxerre are understood to be the only Ligue 1 side to have made a formal offer, which was rejected. It is also claimed he refused a lucrative proposal from Al-Ittihad Tripoli.
Since leaving Old Trafford, Martial's career has taken him to AEK Athens, where he scored nine goals, and then to Monterrey, where he managed just one. In total, he has made 53 appearances over the last two seasons. He will turn 31 in early December.
Martial is reportedly waiting until after the current international break before making a decision on his next move. His former club, Manchester United, are preparing for their next Premier League fixture at home to Tottenham on 10 October, sitting 12th in the table with five points from five games.
