Manchester United have secured the future of teenage talent Shea Lacey with his first professional contract. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who scored his first senior goal last weekend, has officially signed a long-term deal with the club.

Lacey netted United's opening goal in their 2-3 home defeat to Brighton on 16 September, finishing from a Youri Tielemans assist in the eighth minute. His breakthrough into Erik ten Hag's plans this season comes as the team sits 13th in the Premier League with four points from four games. The club confirmed the contract on Tuesday, tying down a player one of the academy's brightest prospects.

A first-team breakthrough

His goal against Brighton marked a significant personal milestone in a difficult period for the team, which has lost its last two league matches. Lacey's emergence provides a positive note amid a challenging start to the campaign that has seen United concede seven goals while scoring seven. Manager Erik ten Hag has integrated several young players into the squad this term, with Lacey's new deal following his recent first-team involvement.

"Shea has shown fantastic attitude and quality," Ten Hag told the club's media channels. "This is a deserved step for a hard-working young player." The manager has had to handle a lengthy injury list that currently includes Amad Diallo, Carlos Baleba, and Luke Shaw, creating opportunities for academy graduates.

With Bruno Fernandes leading the scoring charts with three goals, Lacey's development adds another attacking option. The club's focus now shifts to an away fixture against 18th-placed Fulham on 20 September, a match United will approach looking to end their losing run.
