Pierluigi Gollini is expected to start in goal for AS Roma when they face Manchester United in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday. The Italian goalkeeper will deputise for the injured Mile Svilar, who is out with a broken toe, as the Serie A side look to improve on their position in the group. Roma currently have four points from their opening three matches, sitting three points behind the group leaders.
Manchester United enter the fixture in poor domestic form, sitting 16th in the Premier League standings with just seven points from eight games, having lost their last two matches. Their most recent outing was a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, a result that extended their winless league run to five games. The club's top scorer this season is Mbeumo, who has netted four times in eight appearances. United's next fixture is a Premier League trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Team news and form
Both sides are expected to field near full-strength squads, with no fresh injury concerns reported. For Roma, Svilar joins a significant absentee list that also includes Dybala and Pellegrini. United's last starting lineup, a 4-2-3-1 against Bournemouth, featured S. Lammens in goal behind a defence of Diogo Dalot, Maguire, Yoro and A. Heaven.
Roma's form has been more encouraging, with a 4-2 win over Cagliari last time out. Their attack is spearheaded by Donyell Malen, who has three goals and two assists in 236 Champions League minutes this season. United will look to Bruno Fernandes, who has created seven chances in 237 minutes, to provide a creative spark. For goal contributions, Malen has been directly involved in a goal every 47 minutes in the competition for Roma, while Fernandes has created a chance every 34 minutes for United.
